Frequently
Asked Questions
What do I wear?
Please come dressed in a choli, tank top, or some other type of form fitting
top (so we can insure proper posture, no t-shirts please), a long loose skirt,
pantaloons or yoga style pants (something that will not restrict your movement),
and a hip scarf (if desired). Students with zils (finger cymbals) are encouraged
to bring them to each class. We usually dance barefoot, or if the floor is
cold, in socks. Jazz or lyrical dance shoes are also appropriate. For intermediate
and advanced students, a long skirt, pantaloons, and choli are required.
How do I pay?
Your class instructor will check you in. Payment (cash or check) is due at
the beginning of the class.
Do I need to register with you?
If you're coming to our classes for the first time show up a few minutes early
to sign a waiver and fill out a registration card with your contact information.
We use this information to inform you of class cancellations, upcoming events,
and other important announcements.
Which class is right for me?
Basics is the best starting place for brand new dancers and belly dancers who
have never done American Tribal Style before. Basics Plus can be attended simultaneously,
and is encouraged, for the dancer desiring more of a challenge. It is suggested
that dancers interested in Basics Plus have a previous three months attendance
in Basics and/or are taking Basics in conjunction with Basics Plus. Once you've
mastered the foundation moves you're ready for the Intermediate class. Check
with your instructor if you think you're ready. Advanced class (performance
prep) is instructor invitation only.
What is the minimum age for the Group Belly Dance Classes?
Our classes are for students of at least 18 years of age for insurance reasons.
